Washing machines have been around for so long already that it's hard to imagine life without them. Let's face it; they must surely be one of the most home appliances ever invented, so it's hardly surprising there are so many great makes to choose from nowadays. Even so, some makes and models always seem to be more popular than others, and a perfect example of this is the classic Maytag Washing Machine. For the last few decades, Maytag has consistently been producing machines that have gone on to become immensely popular between consumers. Those people who can remember watching TV during the 1970's may recall the brilliant Maytag advertising campaign, and it is often said that this is what effectively put Maytag machines in the spotlight.

During the 1970s and into the 1980s, Maytag produced a series of brilliant commercials that featured a bored repairman who would frequently lament that his job was dull and lonely because Maytag Washing Machine never break down. Such a simple and humorous advertising campaign proved to be a wildly effective one. It quickly established the notion that Maytag produced the best and most durable appliances on the market. This enhanced the sales success of Maytag appliances tremendously. So successful was that classic campaign, it perennially boosted the success potential of Maytag appliances -all types of Maytag appliances - for decades to come.

Of course the only reason why the advertising campaign was such a phenomenal success is because it was for the most part very true. If it had not been, no number of adverts would have managed to persuade generations of people to go out and purchase Maytag Washing Machine. The adverts got consumers talking, and as any manufacturer knows, word-of-mouth publicity is the most powerful of all selling tools.

Let's face it; durability is something most people take seriously, so it's actually quite ironic that the advertising campaign, was hardly serious, and in fact, very humorous, and yet it was successful at informing the public. The fact of the matter is, no matter how good an advertising campaign is, it won't be able to do much for a product fails to impress consumers. It may be able to for the short term, that's where it ends. Those classic Maytag repairman commercials didn't deliver short-term success, but instead, they delivered success which has so far lasted for four decades.

Personal need plays a prominent role in people purchasing appliances such as washing machines. After all, people buy washing machines because they don't like the idea of hand washing everything, and who can blame them, because it is after all a very difficult job to do. With that said; there is absolutely no demand at all for any old washing machine that's known for breaking down or operating in an unreliable manner. Maytag Machine are not only durable, but they're also notoriously reliable, and this is what those classic commercials promoted. Yes, there been a few modern versions of the original Maytag repairman commercials, and they have been effective, but not as big of an impact as the original commercials.
